Mission Opportunities

Here is a snapshot of the several mission opportunities and projects that go on at Lander United Methodist Church:

East Angola Mission Partnership

We continue to support three pastors’ salaries in Africa through our partnership with the East Angola Annual Conference. In addition, we help contribute towards their other needs, such as the East Angola technology and communications fund, church building projects (roofs, windows, doors), church farming projects, transportation needs (motorcycles/scooters for pastors), and Bibles and hymnals for the East Angola churches.

Mission Trips:  The last Mission trip went down to Pital, Costa Rica. The mission team joined the local contractor and church members working side by side on the prep-work needed for the Sanctuary’s tile floor, cleaning up the area around Church, pouring new concrete walkways, and repairing the bathroom plumbing. With fundraising underway, the next trip will go out in the next couple years!

Good Samaritan Community Meal: On September 22nd 2017, Lander UMC kicked off a weekly community meal, intended for those in our community who would like to share in a free meal and a bit of table fellowship. The meal is served every Friday in our Fellowship Hall. As a church, Lander UMC prepares and serves the meal on the first Friday of each month.  Several community partners have committed to one Friday a month for a year and have stepped up to continue to make this project possible.

Good Samaritan Food Pantry:  Since its inception in October of 2016, the Good Sam Emergency food pantry has handed out over 930 bags of groceries. The pantry is supplied through food donations made by church and community members, financial donations, and through a very generous partnership with Michelle Motherway and Mr. D’s.

Angel Tree and Mission Egg Tree: Every Advent and Lent the Mission team sponsors a fun way of donating personal care items that will go to the Fremont County girls/boys group homes, Families of Domestic Violence, Good Samaritan Home, and the First Step Help Center. Participants remove the paper angel during Advent or the plastic egg during Lent that lists the items needed. Folks then purchase the items on their list and bring them in to be donated out at Christmas or Easter, respectively.

Sunflower Kids: We continue to help support the Sunflower Kids program, founded and run out of Laramie, Wyoming. The mission of the Sunflower Kids is to feed hungry children and families in Tanzania.
